Last Night’s Forecast General Situation. —A deep depression crossed the South Island last night and its northward extension has been crossing the North Island to-day. An anticyclone centred over New ■ South Wales is now moving on to New Zealand. Forecast. —Winds from between south and west prevailing, fresh to strong generally at first but gradually decreasing to-morrow. Seas slight or moderate north of East Cape, elsewhere rather rough to rough. In the eastern Tasman Sea fresh to strong south-westerly to southerly winds, gradually decreasing; seas rough. Weather unsettled in the Hawke’s Bay - Gisborne area with occasional rain, but otherwise fair to fine generally except for occasional isolated showers, more especially in the far north and south. Temperatures cool to moderate. To-day’s Nortli Island Report Steady barometric readings and mild temperatures were again general today on the east coast of the North Island. Gisborne’s 70 degrees at 9 .a.m. topped the list, with others ranging down to 57 degrees at Wellington. Winds were from the south-west, and only at Tiritiri and Napier was there any force in the breeze. Blue skies with patchy cloud were general north of East Cape, and overcast and cloudy conditions prevailed south of there. Visibility was good to excellent, and sea conditions smooth to moderate. (Rain fell at Tiritiri yesterday. Midday Forecast General Situation.—An anticyclone is moving on to New Zealand from the west. Forecast: Light to moderate variable winds. An isolated shower or two at first, but weather otherwise fair to fine and milder. Seas', slight.
