SWIMMING CARNIVAL

MERCANTILE RELAY MOTORS’ WIN LARGE CROWD ATTENDS, The grandstand of the Macrae Baths was crowded last night for the secbnd carnival of the season conducted by the Gisborne Amateur Surf and Swimming Club. The main event was the annual 1 mercantile houses' relay for the Hautanoa Cup. Twenty-one teams competed' in' this event and after four heats six teams were left in the final. After a hard struggle in the final the team representing H.S. Motors emerged the winner. Mr. T. WauchOp later presented, the cup to the successful'team's captain.' During the evening three championship events were swum, the main race being the 220yds. intermediate boys’ championship. The title was retained by L. Smale. A water polo match played between teams captained by D. Lange and T, Wauchop resulted in a win for Lange’s team by five goals to two. Results 220yds.
