ALL FRONTS COMMON
ITALY AND GERMANY CLAIM BY IL DUCE MEDITERRANEAN ZONE (Reed. Feb. 25. 9 a.m.) LONDON, Feb. 24. During his speech before the Fascist rally in Rome yesterday. Signor Mussolini said: “The Germans know that Italy is supporting the weight of 1.000,000 British and Greek soldiers, 1500 to 2000 aeroplanes, as many tanks, thousands of guns, and at least 500,000 tons of warships. The German air force units and armoured detachments have put into effect the Mediterranean co-operation which the Fuehrer offered, proving that all fronts are common and the effort is common. A fuller version of the opening stages of Signor Mussolini’s speech quotes him as saying: “One army, namely the tenth, was swept away with almost the entire strength of men and guns. The fifth air force squadron was almost literally wiped out.” Yesterday’s version of this passage stated that Signor Mussolini admitted that a tenth of the Italian army had been destroyed and also a fifth of the air force.
