FLYING CROSS AWARD

NEW ZEALAND PILOT EAST AFRICAN SERVICE (Reed. Feb. 11. 11..10 a.m.) LONDON, Feb. 10 In connection, with the award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Flight Lieutenant G. R. Magill, Royal Air Force, of Ruakaka, Te Avoha. New Zealand, the official citations say that he participated in the majority of his squadron’s operations over Eritrea and Abyssinia in the past six months as a formation leader and in individual day and night raids.

His careful planning and execution of long raids in bad weather over difficult country, and often against strong opposition, contributed materially to the squadron’s successes. On October 29 he led a formation attack against Dangila which inflicted considerable damage on enemy battalions. At all times he displayed the utmost coolness and courage.
