QUEENSLAND ELECTION
NON-LABOUR PARTIES
BRISBANE, Jan. 17.
A Country Party was formed in Queensland many years ago. and. although its policy is similar to that of the United Australia Party, each conducts its own organisation and does its own election campaigning. With the exception of a break from 1929 to 1932, Labour has been in office continuously since 1915. but has held some seats because of lack of co-operatiori be tween the two non-Labour parties.
Members of the Parliamentary Country Party and the more liberal of ils rank and file members have been urging closer association for the Slate election which will be held next April or May.
Many members of the United Australia Party are in favour of complete amalgamation but, although that receives little support from the Country Parly, it is fairly certain that a com-, monsense working arrangement will be made. A large section of the Country Party is opposed to an amalgamation with what is described as a city party.
