MR. GANDY EAREWELLED STAFF PRESENTATION (Hern 1(I Com*spoil dent.) The Public Works Department’s stafl at Bartletts recently fare.welled Mr. D. J. Candy, who, after four and. a half years’ service with the department, left to engage in private employment. In the absence of Mr. L. C. Harclie, engineer in charge at Bartletts, Mr. E. D. Kalaugher, assistant engineer at Tikiwhata, spoke on behalf of the staff, lie expressed the general regret at Mr. Candy’s departure and extended (he good wishes of all with whom he haci been associated- for a happy future, He asked Mr. Candy to accept a fountain pen and pencil, as a token ol goodwill and esteem from his fellowo fifteen;. Mr. J. French, with whom Mr. Candy was more closely associated during the greater part of his term on the railway works, in endorsing Mr. Kalaugher’s remarks, added that Mr. Gandy had been a very con,scientious officer with whom it had been a pleasure to work. Mr. Candy suitably acknowledged the gifts.
Mr. and Mrs. Gill, Hastings, and Misses Eileen and Maureen Gill and Miss Audrey Cheer spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. F. Fouhy. Mr. M. McKenna, Mastertpn, also was the guest of Mr. and Mrs. F. Fouhy.—Mr. E. A. Smith was home for the weekend.—Mr. C. F. Mori went to Wairoa for the week-end. Mrs. Mori and her children, who have been spending six weeks’ holiday there, returned home with Mr. Mori on Sunday. Miss June Fouhy, who has bpen spending the school vacation with her parents at Bartletts, returned to Gisborne on Monday.—Miss "Edna French, Manutuke. was home for the weekend.
The progressive five-hundred tournament evenings held under the auspices of the Bartletts Social Club will be resumed this week.
