MERGERS OPPOSED
FARMERS AND TRANSPORT “It is the unanimous opinion of farmers in the Waikato that monopolies in the carrying industry are against the interests of the farming community,” said Mr. IT. Johnstone at a meeting of the Waikato subprovincial council of the Farmers’ Union. “If we combine to support individual or co-operative operators, we will kill the merger companies.” It had been definitely proved, said Mr. C. J. Flay, that farmers obtained better service from independent caiv riers and owner-drivers. Unfortunately, there were few owner-drivers now operating.
