JUBILEE APPROACHES FIFTY YEARS' SERVICE LONDON, Nov. 22. The world’s first underground railway will celebrate its jubilee in lie-, cember. It is 50 years since Edward VII, then Prince ol' Wales, inaugurated this pioneer line, running south from ih'c City pf London under the Thames. It originally had three miles of track; now it has 200, constructed at an average cost ol £1,000,000 a mile. Today it is operated by the London Transport Board and serves a population of almost 10,000,000. One line 25 miles long is believed to 'be the longest tunnel in the world.
