QUEEN COMMITTEES RANGE OF ACTIVITY EXECUTIVE DISCUSSION THREE WEEKS IN HAND Coast, country and town folk throughout the district appear to have wakened fully to the interest of the queen carnival campaign in aid of the East Coast Provincial Patriotic Council’s rehabilitation fund, and a programme of wide-range activity submitted 1o a meeting of the campaign executive last evening suggested that the final three weeks of the carnival would be full of money-making possibilities. Registered Fixtures Among the events organised on behalf of the respective queens were the following:— Thursday. October 24.—Back to Childhood Ball, Tolaga Bay; Maori concert and dance, Puha Hall. Friday, October 25. —Dance in Hicks Bay; dance at Tawhhvhirangi meetinghouse, Tikitiki; shop-day, in Gisborne for R.S.A., sports, and Coast queens combined.

October 2G.—Sports dance at “Woodlands,” Waihirere; R.S.A. day at Waikanae Beach.

October 27.—R.5.A. day at Waikanae Beach; radio appeal for funds, from 2 ZIVI, at 7.30 p.m.

October 28 (Labour Day).—Speedboat regatta, Turanganui River; R.S.A. day at Waikanae Beach; young farmers’ dance, Patutahi; gala sports day, Tokomaru Bay; Te Araroa. tennis day, with “bring-and-buy,” and a dance in the evening; children’s sports at VVhakaruu Park, Ruatoria.

November 2. —Spring race meeting at Makaraka, for sports queen; Maori concert, City Hall; boxing and wrestling display, Childers Road Reserve (alternative date).

November I.—R.S.A. pig drive sale, at Matawhero yards; R.S.A. dance, ,'latawai.

November 7.—Waikohu R.S.A. dance, i’e Karaka.

November 9.—R.S.A. Derby Day fair. Park racecourse; “Bookies’ ” Ball, City Hall.

November 13. —Maori dance, Poho-o-Rawiri; High School Old Students' Ball; boxing and wrestling display, Childers Road Reserve (alternative date). The Cosmopolitan queen committee was given permission to lodge its list of forthcoming fixtures to-day. Radio Appeal For Funds The campaign executive expressed the keenest satisfaction with the manner in which the carnival was proceeding, and congratulated the queen committees on the enterprise shown. In connection with the radio broadcast appeal for funds, to be made from station 2ZM on Sunday evening, it was stated that every donor would have the opportunity of supporting his oilier own choice among the candciaies. Donations received would be allocated with the utmost care, according to the instructions received from the givers.

The R.S.A. pig drive, it was reported by the queen committee in charge, would be conducted by Mr. P. Robertson, Hexton, with the assistance of a number of other small farmers. Already a number of pigs had been donated, and it was expected that the small-holders of the Gisborne district would give the scheme extensive support. The drive would be on the same basis as the recent cattle drive, the R.S.A. supporters carrying out the organising and driving but every donor having the right to indicate the queen whom ho wishes to support by his donation.
