SUMMER ATTIRE

SOCKS FOR GIRL PUPILS HIGH SCHOOL DECISION QUESTION OF OPTION For summer wear, girls of the Gisborne High School are to wear navy blue anklet socks instead of stockings, in view of the difficulty of securing full-length stockings. This was reported to a meeting of the High School Board of Governors yesterday afternoon by the rector. Mr. J. Hutton, who stated that after consultation with Miss R. O. Mason arrangements were made for girls to secure a supply of navy blue socks for wear until Easter. White socks had their disadvantages, and the navy blue would give fewer laundering troubles than the white. He realised that the decision would mean a big change in the school uniform, but the question 1 was one of supply. Mr. H. H. De Costa said that some parents might object to their girls wearing the socks, and he suggested that they should be optional. The chairman, Mr. L. T. Burnard: 1 think you will find that every child will want to be the same as the others. Mr. T. Todd said that perhaps a big girl of 17 years of age might not like to wear the socks. The chairman: I think they arc usually the ones who like to wear them. The rector said he would discuss with Miss Mason the advisability of allowing the pupils the option of wearing socks or stockings.
