PICTORIAL PAPERS ONLY ONE COAST SCENE BUSINESS-MEN’S PROTEST Drawing attention to the fact that New Zealand led the world in the production of illustrated papers, Mr. W. E. Mcllwaine stated at yesterday’s meeting of the Gisborne Chamber of Commerce that of 276 pictures in the three Christmas pictorial numbers now on sale, only one dealt with an East Coast subject. . He considered that this district was rich in pictorial subjects as well as in actual wealth, and it was not reasonable that it should be so seriously overlooked in the compilation of pictorial numbers which circulated extensively overseas. He moved that the managements of the three illustrated papers be written to asking that better pictorial representation of Gisborne and the East Coast be given and that the executive of this chamber seek, from photographers and others, pictures suitable for publication in the New •Zealand illustrated papers. Mr. L. T. Burnard seconded the motion, which was carried unanimously.
