HIGH CASTE GOES WELL MAIKAI IMPROVING (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn. (Reed. Oct. 16, 9 a.m.) MELBOURNE, Oct. 15. Conditions were ideal for galloping at Caulfield, where, on the course proper, High Caste, with the outside running, and Beaulivre finished together after running six furlongs in 1.14.?. Both moved freely. Gladynev and Tidal Wave went together unextended over seven furlongs in 1.34. Gladynev looks to be improved as a result of Saturday’s race. Whisperlow beat Goldsmith., equalling the record for four furlongs in 49sec.

Ajax, who is fit, covered five furlongs in 1.1.3. Wilson and John Dory went together over six furlongs in 1.153. Wilson’s recent form has been disappointing, but he continues to gallop attractively. Maikai and Remarc did five furlongs in 1.1.3. Maikai drew away over the last furlong and improved on his recent efforts. Sir Romeo beat Adherent and Parodier over four furlongs in 493 sec. Apostrophe’s Mile Apostrophe ran exceptionally well over a mile in 1.42. Rex Felt covered an easy mile in 1.47, and Historian did the same distance in 1.55, the last three furlongs in 38£sec. Pandect moved freely, beating Dark Felt over five furlongs in I.IJ. Hathersage covered a mile in 1.47. It was intended that El Golea should accompany him, but the latter was stubborn and would not gallop. The promising three-year-old, General Havelock, broke a fetlock while galloping at Mentone to-day and was destroyed. True Flight's absence from the tracks to-day resulted in rumours that all is not well. The trainer refuted the idea and said the horse was fit and did not need a rousing gallop. True Flight worked on the roads and then visited the beach. High Caste was very fit after today’s gallop and is expected to provide a great race with Ajax to-mor-row. Dashing Cavalier will arrive in Melbourne on Thursday and may be accompanied by Nightbeam. Flemington Gallops The gallops at Flemington took place on the inside grass, the going being fast. Auries’ Star accounted for six furlongs in 1.16|. He is very fit. Carpentier and Darraweit covered six furlongs in 1.19 J-. Reading, who looks well, ran a mile in 1.49. Silent Tip went well over a mile, run in 1.43,3. Freckles, who is looking improved, accounted for nine furlongs in 2.0. Waxwings did steady work and moved .freely. Katanga and Valhalla finished together at the end of six furlongs on the tan, run in 1.181.
