ARMOURED DIVISION
A.I.F. ARMY PROJECT MELBOURNE. Oct. 1. The formation of an Australian mobile or armoured division will be considered by the Federal Government when local production of equipment has reached a higher rate and wider range.
A specific objective laid down in an official list of war measures to be undertaken in the army development programme by June, 1942. is the provision of armoured fighting vehicles and their armament for the equipment of an armoured division. This development would be in line with the increased mechanisation of the British Army and the reorganisation of its armoured units by the creation of a Royal Armoured Corps shortly before the war began.
