RALLYING OF FARMERS VISIT FROM MR. POLSON MEETING IN GISBORNE For the purpose of stimulating the effort being made - throughout New Zealand to Increase primary production during the war, Mr. W. J. Poison, M.P., president of the Federation of Primary Producers and a member of the National Council of Primary Production, is making a tour of the North Island. Mr. Poison will reach Gisborne tomorrow evening, when he will address a meeting of representative farmers and others whose services will be valuable in leading the campaign in this district. He will be accompanied by Mr. C. J. Hamblyn, fields superintendent for the Wellington district. Department of Agriculture. At a meeting in Hastings on Thursday, Mr. Poison explained the Government’s plans to increase production, and afterwards a large managing committee was set up. This committee will be under the direction of the Hastings District Council of Primary Production, and it will set up district committees in all farming areas which will inquire into the production capacity of all farms. The district production council will attend to difficulties concerning supplies, requisition of Government aid where possible, attend to and provide departmental assistance, arrange with the placement officers for labour, and generally supervise and assist under the direction of the national council.

The procedure at the Gisborne meeting is expected to follow the same lines as at Hastings, and representatives of the farming industry from all parts of the district, from as far north as Te Araroa, are being invited to attend. Mr. E. M. Bates, chairman of the Poverty Bay Council of Primary Production, is making arrangements for the gathering.
