GIANT IN BASKETBALL
Mike Novak, who is 6ft B|in in height, is the new sensation of American basketball, which is the most popular sport in the United States, judging by the numbers of players and followers. Novak is the cause of a heated controversy raging over basketball rules. In a recent game that attracted more than 18,000 to till Madison Square Garden, he jumped high enough to put his hand above the rim of the basket, which is 10ft from the ground, and stop several goals. So his ' opponents began firing at the board behind the basket and were successful in scoring from rebounds. But that; type of play spoiled one of the best, features of the game—the short parsing rushes - and now American officials are considering whether they should raise the basket higher or do away with the board at the back of, and above, the basket.
