Value of Man’s Life

The question of the payment of death duties in the case of men being killed on active service, was raised by the chairman. Mr. T. W. G. Tombleson. at a meeting of the Wairoa branch of the Farmers’ Union this week. He stated that when a man with an estate made the supreme sacrifice there were death duties to be considered. There were a lot of men who were solvent while they were alive, but when they deid it was a different case. He was of the opinion that a certain value should be set on a man’s life. The l4on. R.' Semple had stated that h e value an life at £2OOO. Therefore a man going overseas, added the chairman, should have £2OOO deducted from .his death duties.— Special.
