GISBORNE MEETING

POSTPONED MEANTIME Following last night’s announcement by the Prime Minister, the Hon. P. Fraser, regarding new measures l in New Zealand's war effort, the promoters of a meeting to have been held in Gisborne to-morrow night to consider the question have postponed it in the meantime. The purpose of this meeting, which was to have been a mass public gathering, was to secure an expression of opinion on two points:— (1) Cabinet representation of all sections of the community, that is. a non-party national Government; (21 the adoption of compulsory universal national service. In view of the Prime Minister’s statement last night referring to these matters, the committee in charge or arrangements has taken steps to obtain further details to-day of the proposals referred to by Mr. Fraser In the meantime the meeting to be convened for to-morrow has been postponed, but the committee has all the arrangements in hand to convene the meeting on Wednesday, or later in the week, if necessary.
