PERIOD OF SILENCE
GISBORNE OBSERVANCE The ceasing of activities from 9 n.m. to 9.10 a.m. to-morrow as a mark of respect to the late Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage, will be observed in Gisborne, along with other New Zealand towns. The attention of Gisborne residents to the beginning of the silence will be called by the sounding of the Kaiti freezing works’ whistle at 9 a.m., and the conclusion of the 10 minutes’ period will be marked by a further whistle. According to the wishes of the association in Wellington, members of the Gisborne branch of the New Zealand Federation of Drapers, Clothiers, Furnishers and Boot-retailers are requested to cease operations from 9 a.m. until 9.15 a.m.
