YEAR’S TEA SUPPLY
PURCHASE BY BRITAIN IMPORTS UNDER LICENSE (Reed, March 29,!) a.m.) LONDON, March 28. The Government has purchased a year's supply of tea not only for home consumption but also for normal reexports. Private importation of tea is prohibited except under license. Purchases are restricted to the Empire, in order to maintain trade with India and the colonies, and also because payment for lower grade teas from China and Java would drain foreign currency. The price is based on the average from 1936 to 1938.
