WEST FRONT CLASHES
BOAST IN BERLIN LOSSES INFLICTED OPPONENTS’ COURAGE (Reed. Mar. 1, 12 noon.) LONDON, Feb. 29. A French communique issued in Paris states that activity by advance units west of the Vosges and filing from casements were experienced on the Western Front to-day. A German communique issued in Berlin states that patrol activities were experienced on the border line west from Merzig. The Germans claim to have taken several prisoners. The German news agency states that fierce hand-to-hand fighting took place in the woods: “Our infantry, which is specially well trained toi close conflict, inflicted bloody loss, adds tire German version. The enemy fought courageously so there were also some light wounds on oui side. “Despite the intercession of enemy artillery, our patrol returned at full strength.”
