Mr. D. Marshall, district superintendent, Live Stock Division, Wellington, is visiting Gisborne. Mrs. C. Keppex-, Sydney, is staying with her daughter, Mrs. G. Heighway, Centennial crescent. Mr. and Mrs. F. Thomas and Mr. and Mrs. G. Mortleman, Matawai, are visiting the Centennial Exhibition, Wellington. Mr. John Wood, C.M.G., has been appointed director-general of works and buildings of the Royal New Zealand Air Force, according to a notice published in the Gazette last night. Major C. W. Salmon has been appointed a member of the Canteen Board in place of Lieutenant-Colonel S. H. Crump, stated the Gazette last night. The Rt. Rev. G. V. Gerard, Bishop of Waiapu, leaves Napier on Saturday on a visit to Rotorua and Tauranga, His engagements for the month include visits to Gisborne on Sunday, March 17 and to Wairoa on March 18. For the past 13 months Miss' Iris G. Richards has been assistant at the Muriwai School. Miss Richards has now transferred to the Waitaxa School, New Plymouth. Yesterday the children arranged an open-air concert in her honour. At the conclusion of the programme the headmaster, Mr. C. J. Cox, spoke in appreciative terms of the conscientious work, of Miss Richards. One of the senior girls. Shirley Blumsky, also thanked Miss Richards and, after expressing regret at her departure, presented her on behalf of the children with some crystal ware. Miss Richards responded briefly, expressing her thanks for the good wishes and for the gifts. Later Miss Richards left by sex-vice car en route to New Plymouth.—Special.

Reference to the popularity and enei'gy of Mr. D. B. Tennent, senior storekeeper’s assistant, Public Works Department, was made yesterday afternoon at a departmental farewell prior to Mr. Tennent’s departure this morning for Auckland to take up similar duties. The district engineer, Mr. O. G. Thornton, on behalf of the staff, presented Mr. Tennent with an attache case. He expressed regret at losing a valuable officer who had given splendid service during his three and a-half years in Gisborne, and who took an energetic part in oi’ganising social functions when the occasion ai'ose. At a xecond farewell, arranged by +be executive of the Gisborne branch of the Public Service Association, the chairman, Mr. G. McKessar, pi'esented Mr. Tennent with a silver propelling pencil as a token of the esteem in which he was held while an executive officer of the association. Mr. Tennent replied that he regretted leaving the many good friends he had made ; n Gisborne.
