TWO IN HOSPITAL

MATAWHERO ACCIDENT CAR SMASHES POLE SMALL BOY UNINJURED Two women, believed to belong to Taranaki, were admitted to the Cook Hospital last evening after an accident on the main highway at Matawhero in which their car left the crown of the road, collided with a telegraph pole, and came to a standstill 'without capsizing. A live-year-old boy, the other occupant of the car, escaped without injury. The women, Mrs. Kirkwood and Miss Scott, were badly cut by flying glass, as window panels'shattered with the impact. The collision was of considerable force, as was shown by the condition of the post and the car. The pole was split from bottom to top, and the car had the right-hand side almost completely demolished. The tracks of trie car indicated that it switched suddenly off the crown of the road on a straight section, and travelled almost directly to the post, a distance of 45yds. After striking the post and slewing, the car travelled another 15yds before coming to rest against a culvert. The injured women, whose wounds appeared to be superficial, though painful, were removed to the Cook Hospital in the St. John ambulance.
