MAJESTIC THEATRE

“RIO,” “UP THE RIVER,” AND "ALBURY PYJAMA GIRL MYSTERY.” A programme of extraordinary entertainment value is being presented at the Majestic Theatre. On account of the length of the programme. J:he evening sessions commence at 7.30 o'clock. There is glamour and romance in “Rio,” with the principal part taken by Basil Rathbone, supported by other iscreen stars in Victor McLaglen, Robert Cummings and Sigrid Gurie. It is a colourful film, depicting the bright life of two great cities, and also much of the beauties of the French capital and the great Brazilian centre with its incomparable harbour, and the cosmopolitan life, with its senoritas, senors, gauchos and rhumba orchestras. Miss Gurie is an actress of outstanding ability,and contributes three tuneful musical numbers. A strong cast has assisted in the making of a notable picture. The story begins in Paris with Basil Rathbone appearing as a prince of finance whose false empire is threatening to crash about his ears. He still retains fine taste in pearls, wine and women. Sigrid Gurie |is the woman. From Paris the action of the story moves to Rio de Janiero, the gayest city in South America. While Rathbone is eating his heart out in a jungle prison_ camp. Miss Gurie meets and falls in love with Robert Cummings. The associate programme includes “Up the River”, a riotous musical comedy burlesque on prison life, starring Arthur Treacher, Preston Foster. Tony Martin and Slim Summerville. An unsolved mystery is presented in the ‘‘Albury Pyjama Girl Murder Mystery”, a true and authentic story of a crime that has become world famous. The programme opens with the third chapter of “The Phantom Creeps”, starring Bela Lugosi. An added attraction for Saturday’s matinee, which commences at 1.15 p.m., will be “The Lone Ranger.”
