PACIFIC CO-OPERATION
AUSTRALIA AND U.S. SIGNIFICANT MOVE (Reed. Jan. 11, 9 a.m.) MANILA, Jan. 9. The Bulletin, in an editorial, says that the appointment of Mr. Clarence Gauss as United States Minister in Australia is a step towards the coordination of American Pacific policy. Australia is somewhat removed from the centre of the Far East diplomatic field, it adds, but is vitally important to the whole programme of Pacific policy-making. Australia will receive a trained and tried career man, not a politician. It adds that recent conferences between American diplomats take added significance.
