PATRIOTIC FUND

BEACH FETE PROCEEDS CONTRIBUTION OF £BO R.S.A. SOCIAL WORKERS A cheque for £BO, representing the bulk of the proceeds of the New Year gala at the Waikanae Beach, was handed yesterday to the secretary of the Provincial Patriotic Council, Mr. W. M. Jenkins, by Mr. A. H. Barwick, on behalf of the social committee of the Returned Soldiers’ Association. 'lt is possible that there will be a further small amount added, as an allowance for expenses made by the committee may not be quite exhausted. A statement of the accounts of the gala will be placed before the provincial council in due course. The success of the beach gala, despite a threat of rain early in the evening, and a slight nip in the air, has given much satisfaction to members of the social committee. The attendance was excellent, and the many individual attractions offered to the public were well patronised. Many organisations other than the Returned Soldiers’ Association contributed their effort to make the gala a success, and a formal acknowledgement of this assistance will be made when the final accounts are pfgsented to the committee in control of district patriotic funds.
