AUSTRALIAN EXCHANGES MODERATE BUSINESS (Eluc. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) SYDNEY, Jan. 8. Business on the Sydney Stock Exchange to-day was of moderate proportions. Prices were steady, investors showing a disposition to mark time. Sales included: —Bank of New South Wales, £27; National Bank, £5 paid, £5 17s; Colonial Sugar, £SO; Associated News, 15s 6d; Australian Gas “A,” £6 19s; British Tobacco, £2 10s 9d; Australian Consolidated Industries, £1 19s Id; Australian Consolidated Industries, contributing, 18s Id; Electrolytic Zinc, pref., £3 Is 6d; Mount Morgan, 8s 8d; Broken Hill Proprietary, £4 Is 6d; Larut Tin, 8s 8d; Emperor Gold, 14s 7d; Oil Search, ss. Morning sales included: Commercial Banking Company of Sydney, £lB 12s; Bank of New South Wales, £27; Broken Hill Proprietary, 81S 3d; Colonial Sugar, £SO; Drug Houses, 27s 6d. Sales on the Stock Exchange of Melbourne to-day included: —Commercial Bank of Australia, 14s 9d; Australian Consolidated Industries, £1 I9s; Dun-lop-Perdriau, 19s 3d; Bradford Cotton, £2 9s 7d; Felt and Fextiles, £1 16s 9d; Drug Houses, £1 7s 7d; Colonial Sugar, £SO; Mount Lyell, £1 9s 4d; Loloma Mines, £1 12s; North Broken Hill, £2 7s 7d.
PUKEKOHE VEGETABLES
The warm weather is making Pukekohe produce available freely and prices have receded considerably since the new year business commenced. Potatoes are down to 9s a cwt., which compared with 10s 6d last week. Onions are at 17s 6d, which represents a drop of 4s 6d in the same period. Onions are now coming to hand in a semi-dry condition and are selling readily. Green peas have fallen in price from 8s a sugar-bag to 6s 3d, with some lines at 5s Gd, and carrots from 7s a sugar-bag to 6s 3d. Some drumhead cabbages are still coming forward; they continue to bring 5s a chapman bag and 7s 2d a sack. New lines which are quoted are beetroot, french beans and swede turnips. Beetroot are bringing 5s a sugarbag, french beans Bs, and swedes 5s 6d
