POPULAR COUPLE
HIRUHARAMA TEACHERS FAREWELL FUNCTION (Herald Correspondent.) Farewells to Mr. and Mrs. A. King have occupied much time on the Coast lately and they have been the recipients of many gifts. After several years teaching at the Hiruharama Native School, Mr. and Mrs. King leave shortly for Kawakawa, North Auckland, where they take up a similar position. The reason for the transfer of this popular couple is owing to Mrs. King’s health, which necessitates a change of climate. One of the farewell functions was a dance held in the Hiruharama meeting house, which .was gaily decorated with streamers and greenery. The dance music was supplied by the Moonlight jazz band and Night Owl orchestra. A lavish savoury supper was served in the kitchen, which also was brightly decorated. During an interval, Mr. H. T. Reedy, who spoke on behalf of Mr. Arnold Reedy, the chairman, and who is in camp, said thdt Mr. and Mrs. King would be greatly missed by the parents and children. They were really great teachers and had the gift of organising and administrative ability. As a trainer and conductor of choirs Mr. King was unsurpassed, the successes gained by the now well-known Hiruharama choir being entirely due to his efforts. Mr. Reedy concluded by wishing Mr. and Mrs. King the best of luck, long life and happiness. Other speakers were Messrs. B. Clarke and S. Ngarimu, and Mrs. P. White, who endorsed Mr. Reedy’s remarks. Gifts From Maoris In presenting Mr. and Mrs. King with a substantial cheque, Maori kits and mats, Mr. S. Ngarimu assured them of their best wishes for their future success and prosperity, tind wished Mrs. King better health.
