PLUNKET SHIELD
AUCKLAND’S PROSPECTS CANTERBURY SLUMP (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. By reason of its record Plunket Shield score of 693 for nine wickets in reply to Canterbury’s first innings total of 227, Auckland is in an excellent position to secure an outright victory. The visiting side, at stumps, had lost five wickets for 235 runs in thensecond innings. Scott, who was 134 not out on Saturday night, seemed assured of reaching the double century yesterday, but lost his wicket at 198 to a brilliant catch.
Donnelly and O’Brien endeavoured to give Canterbury a good start with 78 and 86 respectively, but a slump developed later.
