AHEAD OF SCHEDULE
CONSTRUCTION OF CAMPS AIR TRAINING CENTRES MR. SEMPLE GRATIFIED (Per Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, this day. The Minister of Public Works, the Hon. R. Semple, visited the New Plymouth airport yesterday during a tour of . inspection of military training centres being constructed by the department. “We are ahead of schedule every 7 where,” said the Minister, when commenting on the department’s efforts. All records for construction had been broken and anything ever done overseas was equalled as a result of the mechanisation and organisation of the department, which had to undertake 750 jobs and cover 2,000,000 sq. ft. with timber. Mr. Semple praised tile foresight of the New Plymouth Borough Council in acquiring land and forming an aerodrome. Had New Zealand not had aerodromes prepared, insuperable difficulties would have been faced when the call for trained aviators was made.
