THE WEATHER Last Night’s Forecast General Situation: A weak depression covers the central portion of the Dominion and is moving slowly eastward. Pressure is high to the west. Forecast: Winds, moderate fresh south-east to south-west, gradually becoming general and freshening at times on the East Coast, later tending north-westerly in the far south. Seas:

In New Zealand waters, moderate to rather rough south of East Cape and about Cook and Foveaux Straits: slight to moderate elsewhere. Eastern Tasman Sea: Fresh southerly to southwesterly winds and moderate to rather rough seas. Weather: Fair in the north and south, cloudy to overcast in the middle portion of the country, with occasional rain, but conditions improving to-morrow west of the ranges. Cool temperatures. To-day’s North Island Report The barometric pressure at Wellington this morning,showed a rise of five millibars on yesterday’s reading, but elsewhere the pressure was steady. Southerly winds prevailed in the southern portion of the island and reached a force of 23 to 33 miles per hour at Cape Campbell, but north of Hawke’s Bay the winds. were, light and variable. Blue skies were reported at Auckland, Tauranga, Opotilci and Gisborne, but south of Poverty Boy conditions were overcast. Heavy rain had been experienced in Hawke’s Bay. Rough seas were reported between Cape Campbell and Castlepoint. but elsewhere smooth to moderate conditions existed. The temperatures were: Cape Maria Van Diemen, 59 degrees; Tauranga, 58; Auckland, 54; Opotiki, 53; Napier, 51; and Wellington, 47. Midday Forecast General situation: A weak depression extends from Chatham Islands north-westward across the North Island. Barometers are high to the west. Forecast: Moderate to fresh south to east, winds. Weather: Dull, with intermittent rain or drizzle, coo] temperatures and rather rough seas.
