Breathlessly paced, magnificently acted and brilliantly directed, this giowing tribute to women who fly is really something for, the producers to be proud of, With Alice Faye as Trixie, Constance Bennett as Gerry, and Nancy Kelly as Lois, “Tail Spin” is the exciting tale of three girls who brush wings with death in the gamble they can lose only once. Trixie flies for the money that is in it, Gerry because she finds the sky’s the place to hide from love, and Lois because it brings her closer to the man she loves. The film opens with a night club scene in which Trixie appears as an entertainer After borrowing £4O from the .owner of the club on the pretext that she needs it for her “mother and brother,” she is next found on the starting line waiting for the flag that will senj 10 racing planes into the air for the Women’s Trans-continental Speed Race to Cleveland. Due to a faulty oil pump Trixie loses the race. Gn arriving in Cleveland she finds that a newcomer, Gerry Lester, .ms flown in. and intends to c ter the “Powder Puff” Derby the next day. This is bad news to every girl in the race, as Gerry, a wealthy daughter of society, has a plane that is practically unbeatable. Finally, on the advice of her own pilot, Gerry consents to quit. She offers her ship to Speed Allen, husband of Lois for the free-for-all race the following day. While trying out the plane, Allen is killed and Lois, in a daze, takes her plane up and turns it into a tail spin. The next day the "Powder Puff” Derby is run, with one of the most exciting climaxes ever filmed.
