WOMAN DROWNED
EVIDENCE AT INQUEST Before the district coroner, Mr, F J. Short, an inquest was opened in Opotiki ofl Wednesday concerning the death of Charlotte Canning Wilkins, aged s(i. single, who was found drowned in a drain at Woodlands on Tuesday morning. Deceased was missed at, 5.30 a.m. on Tuesday from the hospital in which she had been a patient. George Wilkins, brother of Miss Wilkins, said she had apparently attempted to jump the drain and had fallen back after touching a barbedwire fence on the far side and had not sufficient, strength to get out. Other evidence suggested that she was walking to a friend’s place across a small valley. The inquest was adjourned.
