BEER DUTY INCREASE
NOT YET PASSED ON INQUIRY TO BE MADE (Special to the Herald.) WELLINGTON, this day. Hotel customers have not yet been called on to pay any proportion of the extra 3d a gallon beer duty imposed as a war measure on September 27. The licensed victuallers had scarcely recovered from the 6d a gallon increase announced in the Budget and had only completed readjustments when the further rise came. It is understood that proposals are being formulated 'by the licensed trade for submission to the Price Investigation Tribunal which has the final authority regarding a further variation in retail beer prices.
