PARENTS’ LEAGUE

MEETING IN WAIROA DRIVE FOR MEMBERS (.Special to the Herald.) WAIROA, this day. A well-attended meeting of the committee of the Parents League was held in the District High Schol on Wednesday evening. After the disposal of formal business the committee discussed the question of making a canvass of parents in a drive for active members. A circular to parents is being distributed through the school and the committe members are to follow up the circular by personal canvass of parents within the next fortnight. It was decided that a general meeting of all members be, called for Wednesday, October 25. The meeting unanimously decided to support the Labour Day picnic to be held at Opoutama, it being considered that the league should support any move that would enable the children to have a day of enjoyment in the open. Tiie question of further social activities was held over until after the general meeting on October 25. The social committee reported that a successful dance for old students had been held during the last week of September. The chairman mentioned that three former residents of the district, Messrs B. Harkcr, L. Steed and H. McFee, members of the Royal Air Force, had given their lives in the service of the country, and moved a motion of sympathy with the relatives. The members carried the motion, standing in silence.
