“LEARN TO ROW”
GISBORNE CAMPAIGN FACILITIES OFFERED A “learn to row" campaign will be launched by the Poverty Bay Rowing Club, commencing on Saturday of next week. The proposal was taken up enthusiastically at last evening’s annual meeting of the club and it was announced that facilities would be offered fo learners free. The patron, Mr. J. Webb, pointed out that a “learn to row” campaign had resulted in the Wairoa club being rejuvenated, with an increase of 20 in the club's membership. A number of other speakers supposed the idea and it "•'•’as suggested that the club even might forgo its first trials series to make way for the learners. Those desiring to take advantage of the opportunity would be instructed two at a time, perhaps, in a four-oar boat. The question of bringing the rowing gear into order in time for the campaign was discussed and Mr. W McLeod, the club captain, advised that two week-ends would be required to put the finishing touches to the craft. However, it was agreed to make a special effort to complete +.he task earlier and a working-bee of all members was called for this weekend.
