BRITiSH LINER STRUCK CARRYING 1400 PASSENGERS DISASTER DEE HEBRIDES (ICii'c. Ti'l. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. Sept. 4, 3.30' p.m.) LONDON, Sept. 4. The British liner Athenia, with 1400 passengers aboard, has reported to the Admiralty that she has been torpedoed 300 miles west of the Hebrides, off the coast of Scotland. There are no further details. The Athenia was a steel twin-screw steamer fitted for oil fuel of 13,465 tons gross register. She was built at Glasgow in 1923 for the AneliorDonaldson line.
