The Polish Embassy confirms the use of poison gas by German air raiders, in Silesia, and asked for the immediate dispatch of serum against corrosive gas injuries.

The Embassy also states that planes machine-gunned ail ambulance plainly marked" with red crosses, while bombers dropped three bombs on the Convent of Immaculate Conception, where a girls’ school was situated, in Belchaton, causing a number of casualties.

The Warsaw correspondent of the Associated Press of America reports that 10 persons were killed and several wounded when a German bomb struck a Girl Guides canteen near the East railway station. Bomb splinters struck a train of Red Cross carriages carrying wounded from .the western battlefields, but the occupants were not harmed. Sixteen planes were engaged in the raid. Spirited anti-aircraft gunfire replied. The wardens reported that three Ger-| man planes were shot down. Railway Stations Aflame A United Press despatch from Warsaw states that flames were slabbing the sky at dusk from two railway stations one in the north and the oilier in the west of the city as a result of incendiary bombs. All available firemen were mustered. Stretcher bearers were struggling through streets littered with glass. The Warsaw correspondent of the United Press of Great Britain says that the dead in to-day’s air raid number at least 50 and probably more. Many planes participated, the United Press representative counting 30. The city is burning in several sections and the full count of casualties will be impossible for some hours. It was officially announced in Warsaw to-day that German planes bombed Bydgoszcz, inflicting heavy civilian losses. Bombs were dropped on trains, killing and wounding many people. Slight gains were made on the East Prussian front, but the' loss of Czesrbchowa on Sunday is admitted. Close to the town the Poles previously destroyed two , enemy armoured columns. Twenty-seven German planes were brought down to-day. The Polisli losses were 11 planes. Strong attacks continue bn the ■Silesian front and Tatra Mountains. The communique adds that in the face of heavily superior forces with armoured units, artillery and air support, the Poles are retreating in Silesia. The Brussels corresoondent of the Associated Press ol‘ America reports that heavy gunfire from the direction of the German border, reminiscent of 1914, was heard in Luxembourg to-day.
