ANOTHER GRADE TITLE

MARIST THE WINNERS RUGBY UNION DECISION TARDY REP. PLAYERS The decision of the Poverty Bay Rugby Union to close the fourth grade competition gave the Marisl Brothers Old Boys’ Football Club its fourth premiership of the season, a splendid record for the year. Arrangements were also made for the playing of the Premier Cup senior grade, final between Marist and I-1.5.0.8. on No. 1 ground on Saturday. There were present the chairman, Mr. G. 11. Sceats. and the following delegates:—Bro. Denis, Messrs. J. E. Mercer, E. T. Brosnahan, T. French, K. F. Jones, W. H. James and W. S. McKee, hon. secretary.

The nomination of G. H. Phillips, R. Rogers, A. C. Anderson and A. G. McAneney for the North Island section of the AH Black trials was apr proved by the union. It was decided, on the motion of Mr. Mercer, seconded by Mr. Jeune, that the fourth grade competition be closed, Marist fourths being declared the winners of the grade. Winning this grade has given Marist the senior, junior, third grade and fourth grade championships, the filth grade team being runners-up in their section. Mr. G. J. Jeune, manager of the Poverty Bay team which played at Whatatutu during the week-end, commented that some difficulty had been experienced in fielding a team. The game was a good one and gave the

players who made the trip a good work-out. The game was won by Poverty Bay by 12 points to 11. The chairman commented on the standard of play shown in the veterans’ Rugby match on Saturday last, Mr. Sceats saying that several of the players had given very fine displays. Mr. G. J. Jeune said that It had been decided by the old players to secure a match with the Auckland Barbarians’ Club, Mr. M. Brownlie having been appointed to select the local side.
