WEEK-END GOLF

CONDITIONS IDEAL GOOD CARDS UNTURNED QUALIFIERS AT PARK Ideal weather conditions again favoured golfers over the week-end and all the Gisborne links were well patronised. Scoring generally was low and good cards were returned. PARK CLUB The medal round on Saturday at the Park Golf Club was won by J. Madden, 89—21—G8, followed by C. E. Mackay, 93—23—70, P. H. Dow, 82—9—73, and A. D. Tarr, 87—14—73. The following 16 qualified for match play in the club championship:—P. H. Dow, D. A. Wells, A. D. Tarr, S. Duncan, J. McMillan, J. Slipper, F. Dobbie, A. S. TURANGANUI CLUB The following are the results of matches played at the Tuoi links on Saturday by members of the Turanganui Golf Club: — Canadian Mixed Foursomes.—Mrs. W. E. Bullivant and T. McMurray, net 68; Mrs. P. Kaua and D. B. Tennent, net 69; Mrs. N. Cram and W. H. Rangi, net 70; Miss M. Herbert and K. Keiha, net 73; Mrs. W. T. Rangi and P. Tilley, net . 73;’Mrs. R. Robb and P. Keiha, net 75; Mrs. R. Keiha and R. Gordon, net 76. # Men's Stableford Competition.— This resulted in a comfortable win for J. McConnell (18), with a card of 40, followed by D. Ross (20), with a score of 36. Other cards handed r were:—P. Kaua (6), 35; R. Robb (12), 32; G. Butlef (9), 30; W. Carroll (11), 30. Next Saturday the ladies versus men's match will be played for the W. Good and Company Cup. POVERTY BAY CLUB At the Poverty Bay club members took, part in a medal match, the best card being returned by VV. Mclldowie (15), L. Duncombe (15), G. M. Dodgshun (7), J. E. Shimmin (17), all with net scores of 70, C. O. Hansen (8), A. W. Harker (15), R. W. J. Edwards (16) and W. Bullivant (18) sharing second position with edrds of 72. In p Stableford four-ball bogey match the best cards were returned by Hamilton and W. D. McKeague and B. S. Bree and H. B. Tyerman, with 40 points. R. I. Harrison and J. E. Shimmin ahd Thompson and W. H. Lysnar shared second position with 39 points. MURRAY, ROBERTS’ STAFF MATCH A team of 14 players from the staff of Murray, Roberts and Company, Limited, played their annual golf competition for the Centrefire Cup 'on the Gisborne Park links during the week-end. The Centrefire Cup is for the best gross score over 36 holes, and was won this season by L. W. Bishop, tile holder, with rounds* of 83 and 85, a total of 168. F. W. Dobbie was the runner-up with rounds of 83, 86, 169. As the scores indicate, it was a very close finish, Dobbie missing a 2-ft. putt on the last green to halve the match with Bishop.

Other gross scores were: L. Balfour, 92, 94, 186; A. W. Harper, 95, 92, 187; N. Balfour, 97. 90, 187; T. Warner, 100, 94, 194; D. Watt, 107, 101, 208. The cup for the best net score over the 36 holes was won by F. L. Barker, with net rounds of 65, 69, total 134. Barker, a newcomer to the game, played very steadily to win by six strokes from J. Stokes, 71, 69, total 140. The trophy for the morning medal round was also won by F. L. Barker, with a net 65, and the afternoon medal by J. Stokes v/ith a net 69 on the count back from Barker. The trophy for the most improved player went to N. Balfour. The ladies' section was won by Miss L. Godfrey with a net 76. After play the trophies were presented by Mr. A. W, Harper, who congratulated the winners and thanked the Gisborne Park Golf Club for the use of the links and clubhouse. TOKOMAItU BAY CLUB Members of the Tokomaru Bay Golf Club participated in a Stableford bogey match under perfect conditions at the week-end. P. Fairlie, with the good score of 40 points, was the winner. Other cards returned were: Short, 39 points; K. Oates. 38; Gardner, 37; Beechey, 37; K. Paerata, 34; Felton, 34; Orr, 33; Todd, 31; Riddell, 30 ; F. E. Porter, 28: Stafford, 26. The final of the A. B. William; Handicap Cup competition was played during the week-end, and resulted in a win for the second year in succession for H. D. Gardner (12), who defeated J. Todd (18), 1 up, after previously having finished all-square. Gardner played very sound golf, completing the round in 73. Championship X’lay Championship results to date are:— Seniors.—Fairlie cl Short, 1 up; Todd d. Horton at the twentieth; Gardner d. F. R. Porter, 5 and 4. Junior. —First round: Griffiths d.
