FAREWELL SOCIAL .MRS. B ROD IF fTONOURED (Humlit Correspondent.) Before leaving Tokomaru Bay to take up residence in Gisborne, Mrs. J. Brodie was the guest of honour at a social evening organised by the Maori people of lino district. The social was held at the carved meeting house, the Te Aroha orchestra supplying the music lor Pie dancing, an extra being played by Miss P. Kopua. Vocal items were given by Misses M. Ngawai, N. Pewhairangi, K. Kaua, P. Kopua. Eva Hale and N. Matahiki! Two action songs were also greatly enjoyed. Mr. A. B. Forrester was the M.C. On arrival, the guest of honour was greeted ’by members of the committee, little K. Kaua presenting her with a bouquet. The committee responsible for the success of the function consisted of Mesdames F. Hale, P. Aspinall, C. Collier, R. Porter, and T. Babbington; Misses M. Kopua, E. Hale, M. Ngawai, N. Matahiki and Eva Ilale After the serving of a savoury supper, Mr. Forrester called upon Mr. C. Rylands to speak on behalf of the Maori people, and Mr. R. G. Sherwood Hale for the European people Presentation From School On behalf of the Native School staff and committee, Mr. G. M. Bennett. thanked Mrs. Brodie for the way in which she had assisted them, and as an expression of their appreciation and of the esteem in which she was held by those present presented her with a korowai and a kiekie mat.
