Visitor Entertained
A small, delightfully informal mah jongg party was given by Mrs. L. C. Parker, at her home in Rutene road, on Friday night, for Mrs. A. G. Lancaster, who since has returned to her home in Porangahau. The drawing-room was gay with spring flowers, Iceland poppies predominating in the artistic decorative scheme. Supper was served in the diningroom, a posy bowl of mixed blooms being used with charming cfTect in tile adornment of the table. Mrs. Parker wore a frock of dahlia red cloque cut on graceful lines, and a becoming frock of gold satin was worn by Mrs. Lancaster. The guests included Mesdames A. M. Welham, T. A. N. Corson, P. A. Pettit, W. Langlands, M. Stewart and Miss L. Bain. Victoria League Annual MeetingAfter the annual meeting of the Poverty Bay Victoria League, the monthly meeting was held in the Bon Accord Lounge yesterday afternoon, Miss A. L. Rees presiding. Prior to the commencement of formal business a vote of sympathy was passed with the relatives of the late Mrs. A. R. Gardiner. knowledging the congratulations of the league on the occasion of her decoration, and also on her appointment tt ‘he secretaryship of the Wellingtor league. A letter was received from the St John Ambulance Association, in regard to trainees for the nursing division emergency list. In response to a request from the Red Cross Society, Mrs. I. F. Puflett was appointed to represent the league ;u that body. The sum of £2 2s was voted to the Chinese blanket fund, inaugurated b; the Red Cross Society, and a simila: imoiwt was donated to the appeal 'aunched by Mr. Twomey on behalf of the lepers of Makogai Island. Mrs. P. Barry was appointed as the delegate of the committee cn the executive council of the Victoria League, and Mrs. G. A. Nicholls was re-elected as delegate to the Poverty Bay Women’s Representative Committee. Mrs. K. A. Woodward was appointed to represent the league on the St. John Ambulance Association. On -behalf of the book and magazine committee, Mrs. Thompson reported that 411 b of literature had been dispatched during the month to lighthouse keepers and settlers in the ibackblocks.
