BIG- U.S.A. PURCHASES
(Reed. Sept. 1, 9 a.m.) WASHINGTON, Aug. 31. It is announced that the United States Government is speeding up the purchase of war materials, such as manganese, chromium, Tungsten and tin, for which £200,000,000 was approved by Congress last session. The sum of £2,000,000 has been appropriated as the first step in a fouryear plan, but the amount is likely to be greatly increased/
