MELBA SCHOLARSHIP
NEW ZEALAND FINALISTS WELLINGTON FESTIVAL (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. In the New Zealand final of the Melba bequest scholarship, Miss Margaret Fox, of Hawera, was judged the winner. Other finalists were Miss Audrey Lawson (Wellington), Miss Joan Bovis (Shannon) and Miss Beryl Gough (Christchurch.) Other results at the Wellington competitions festival yesterday, included the following: Recital in character: Miss Eirene Haibert (Gisborne), 2. Eccentric Dance: Coral Fraser (Kawakawa), 1. Eccentric Dance, under 15: Valda Rouse (Christchurch), 1; Coral Fraser (Kawakawa), 2. Acrobatic Dance: Pat Fraser (Kawakawa), 1; Isabelle McNie (Mangaweka), 2. Simultaneous Dance Duo, 14 and over: Coral Fraser and Valda Rouse, 1 Vocal solo and accompaniment: Miss Lola Houghton and partner (Napier), 1. Men’s English Folksong: Allan R. Mentor (Wanganui,) 1; W. Clothier (Napier), 2. Pronunciation Test: Miss Dorothy Junker (Pahiatua), 1. Soprano Test Solo: Miss Rache Mawhinney (Auckland), 1.
