HOSPITAL FAREWELL
ME. T. ELLERY'S WORK STAFF PRESENTATrOt\ T -Marking the retirement of Mr. Thos. Ellery from the post of welfare officer to the Cook Hospital Board, a staff gathering was held yesterday at the Cook Hospital, when Mr. Ellery was made the recipient of a personal gift in token of the esteem in which he was held by all branches of the hospital service. Afternoon tea was served in the staff quarters, and Dr. R. J. B. Hall, medical superintendent, took occasion to speak with deep appreciation of the work carried on by Mr. Ellery. He described this work as calling for many qualities of tact, fairness and sympathy, and added that Mr. Ellery had demonstrated those qualities in a marked degree throughout his 10 years with the board. Mr. A. C. Harries, managing-secre-tary, seconded the remarks of Dr. Hall, commending the retiring officer’s sterling qualities and his all-round efficiency. Mr. Harries expressed regret that advancing age had compelled Mr. Ellery to seek retirement, and hoped that he would live long to enjoy the respect which his lifetime of efficient work had earned for him. Miss Marcia Robinson carried out the presentation, and on behalf of the general members of the staff tendered to Mr. Ellery the warmest wishes for a happy retirement. Compliments to Mr. Ellery were evpressed also by Miss G. M. Leipst, and Messrs. Ralph Grant and C. Burkinshaw.
In a -feeling reply, Mr. Ellery said that he had been extremely happy in his work for the board, and in his relations with other members of the staff. He thanked the executive officers and the staff generally for the co-operation given to him throughout his association with the board, which, he declared, had greatly eased the burden of a post in which one came in contact with many circumstances not conducive to happiness. He always would retain the most pleasant memories of his association with the staff of the Cook Hospital.
