BUS BREAKS DOWN
AUCKLAND TEAM LATE
\’IGHT AT MATAWAI
RUGBY UNION CONCERN
For a few hours last evening members of the Poverty Bay Rugby Union felt some anxiety at the non-arrival of the Auckland representative Rugby team which is playing Poverty Bay at the Oval this afternoon. The team was overdue at Matawai and on its arrival some time behind schedule it was found that the bus in which the team was travelling had experienced mechanical trouble in the Waioeka Gorge. In the meantime, officials of the Rugby Union were somewhat concerned at the non-appearance of the visitors apd were making frequnt inquiries to Matawai. All was in readiness to send another bus out to meet the tourists, but when the Aucklanders arrived at Matawai they decided to spend the night there and came on to Gisborne this morning after breakfast.
The manager of the Auckland team is Mr. ,1. Herrick.
