IRISH AMATEUR GOLF
G. 11. Owens a Dublin dentist and member of the Skerries Club, became the new Irish native amateur champion on June 22 when, in the 36-holes final of the championship, played at Rosses Point. County Sligo, he beat R. McConnell, a doctor practising in the north of Ireland, by six and five McConnell, a former Irish open amateur champion, won the native title four years ago. Owens caused a big surprise earlier in the week when he beat the holder, J. Bruen. In this game he putted magnificently. In the last eight holes he had five threes.
