MOST VEGETABLES DEARER Hailstorms and frosts have so damaged the cabbage and cauliflower crops at Pukekohe that first quality cuttings are now at the premium. The current price of cauliflowers is 10s Gd a chapman bag and 14s Gd to 15s a sack, as against 8s 3d a chapman bag and 12s a sack a week ago. Cabbages are selling at 9s 4d a chapman bag and 13s Gd a sack, as against 8s 3d and 12s respectively a week ago. The weather is now milder and supplies are expected to increase. Carrots are also dearer, having increased in price from Gs to 8s 3d a sugar-bag since last week, owing to the demand increasing. Parsnips remain at Gs a sugar-bag, swedes at 4s for sGlb, and 5s a sugar-bag, pumpkins at lGs a cwt, and onions at 20s Gd a cwt. Onions, which fell Is a cwt in the early part of the month, are now selling more freely at the lower figure.

TOATOA JERSEYS

TOP PRICE 48(1 NS. The second annual dispersal sale of “Toatoa” Jerseys was Held on the farm of Mr. W. Paul, Verrall’s road, Opotiki. Buyers were present from all parts of the Bay of Plenty and the Waikato. Top price of the sale was 48 gns., paid for Toatoa Imperajor, by Mr. A. J. Hopkirk, Tc Tcko. The twoyear bulls met with good competition throughout. The yearling bull? offered were late calves, and condition was only fair, but all were keenly competed for. The aged cows Offered were late calvens and did not meet with very much compelition.

The two-year in-calf heifers offered were a really good lot and they had not be pampered in any way. Reserves in most cases were high and the top price, 20 gns, was paid by Mr. T. Wardlaw for a very nice heifer out of Toa Toa Sheila V.H.C. AUCKLAND POWER BOARD GOOD RESPONSE TO LOAN £223,400 SUBSCRIBED Good progress is being made with ithe raising of the Auckland ElectricPower Board’s loan of £290,000 at 4\ per cent with a term of 20 years, and by the end of this weak it is expected that the amount will be fully subscribed. So far £223,400 has been subscribed. Since June G, when the loan opened, applications each day have totalled about £7350. All the investments have been small, with the exception oL one of £20,000. The board has decided that immediately £290,000 has been received, further applications will not be accepted. “First in, first served,” said the chairman, Mr. S. J. Harbult.
