BADMINTON HOKITIKA RETAINS THE GUNN CASKET
Winning seven games (190 points) to its opponent’s five games (196 points), Hokitika defeated St John’s (Greymouth) in a badminton match for the Gunn Casket last evening. Hokitika won the trophy earlier last week and retained it after last night’s match.
Results, with Hokitika players mentioned first, are as follows: — Women’s doubles. —Misses O. and R. Stapleton defeated Mesdames H. Hutchison and Buchanan, 21-3; Misses H. Wallace and L. Clausen defeated Mesdames J. Stocker and W. Tennent, 21-19; Mrs N. Stevenson and Miss J. Bradley defeated Mesdames Fraser and Tucker, 21-18. Men’s doubles.—A. Stevenson and D. Pfahlert lost to W. Tennent and J. Stocker, 5-21; D. Hodgkinson and W. Cumming lost to R. Blyth and H. Hutchison, 12-21; R. Keegan and R. King,defeated W. Bone and H. Yates, 21-9. Mixed doubles. —Miss Clausen and Hodgkinson lost to Mrs Tennent and Hutchison, 18-21; Mrs Stevenson and Keegan defeated Mrs Fraser and Bone, 21-17; Miss Bradley and King defeated Mrs Tucker and Yates, 21-7; Miss O. Stapleton and Stevenson lost to Mrs Hutchison and W. Tennent, 6-2.1; Miss R.
