PORT SURCHARGE MAY BE REMOVED
AUCKLAND, This Day (P.A.). —lt is expected that the 7-J- per cent surcharge on all inward freights to Auckland from the United Kingdom will be removed and an early announcement is expected. The reason for the removal is thought to be that a Royal Commission is to inquire shortly into all aspects of the New Zealand waterfront industry. The surcharge was imposed by shipping lines in April, because of delays in the turn-round of shipping in Auckland. Cargoes bearing the surcharge have been reaching Auckland in the past few weeks. The effect on the buying public has been slight.
