BADMINTON ST JOHN’S LOSE BENNINGTON CUP TO BLAKETOWN

In the first badminton challenge match of the season for the Bennington Cup, the holders, St John’s, were defeated by the challengers, Blaketown, by a margin of nine points. The game score was even, six all, and the issue was decided by the total match .

points, 205 to 196. The tournament was keenly contested throughout. St John’s won all the men’s doubles and Blaketown won the three women’s doubles. It was the mixed doubles that decided the result.

These six matches were so evenly contested that the decision rested with the last match. In an exciting game T. Jarvis and M. Oakley, of Blaketown, defeated Mrs Fraser and W.
